Research of the Poitras name has my grand-mother born in Perce/Quebec/Canada. Her name was Alice Marie Poitras born in 1885 to Joseph Poitras and Elisabeth Cyr. My grand mother married, my grand-father, Fred Prokipczuk ( alternate spelling Prokiporuk/Prokipchuk/Prokipciuc). He was born in Bukovina Roumania in 1882 and immigrated to Canada in 1910. His parents were Alexander Prokipciuc and Anna Iwonchok.
Alice Marie Poitras was said to have MicMac Native heritage some where along the line, as to this date, I have not figured out how it ties in with the Poitras family.
I started this family tree in September of 1996. At times it was frustrating and mind boggling. With the help of many cousins,aunts and uncles, I was able to accomplish more than I could have ever dreamed of.
I made a trip to Bobesti, Ukraine where the Prokipczuk family orginated in the summer of 2000. Wow! It was a wonderful trip. I met long lost family members, who open their hearts, home, family and love to me. In a few years I am definitely going to make the trip again.
