About Our Family Research

We started doing family research an number of years ago. The data was not organized. Much of it was based on family lore. It seems, in retrospect, that older membes were reluctant to share some details. So we speculated that there were skeletons in the closet that they did not wish to reveal. Our mother died at a rather young ageof 51 so we were not able to get information from her. Her sister was even more tight-lipped and did not share with her only son. She went to her grave without ever telling her son who his father was. He was already past 50 when his own children began to search their family history and there were questions they could not get answered.

This further encouraged us to become more diligent in our search. Our father and his brothers and sisters shared what information they but it was also limited. we collected and compiled information which we shared at family reunions. But as more and more of older members died our sources dried up. We were further hampered because we are African American and the on our istory is very sparse.

We have been thankful for the research don by the Church of Later Day Saints. It has opened up new avenues for us. We have been able to cross-reference some information. Other information had to be discarded because the written records proved it to be wrong.
