The Cuddihys of South Kilkenny Ireland

Updated September 30, 2002

About Our Family Research

The research is at the embryonic stage at the moment (July 2002). By using this User Home Page I hope to further this research significantly.
Cuddihy is a native Irish name which originates from the Irish word 'cuidithe' meaning helper, so that may give a clue as to what the humble profession of our forefathers was!
The majority of the Cuddihy clan live in County Kilkenny and the surrounding counties of Waterford, Tipperary, Carlow and Laois in Southern Ireland. However the closely related surmane, Cuddy, is alot more prevalent in county Laois. Other variants of the name include Cuddhea, Cuddahy, Coady and even Quigley.
From observation I have seen the Cuddihy surname appear in e-mail addressed and websites from as far afield as the US and Australia.
The Town of 'Cuddahy' is part of the city of Milwaukee in the US, and was named thus by Irish emigrants during the eighteenth century.
