Drowned and his body was found floating on the East Side of the Eads Bridge. Unknown as to whether a suicide or other circumstances. Body was buried in Potter's Field in East St. Louis, IL. Listed as unknown identity. When Thomas Walsh read a newspaper article about an unidentified body being found he contacted East St. Louis officials and went over and identified the possessions and body. Thomas and Daniel had the body exhumed and returned to St. Louis for funeral and burial. St. Louis Post Dispatch article on Sunday July 1, 1906, lists Richard's widow as Mamie, who had two children.
