Cummings (LINTZ, HALLEY, LARVIE) I'm not sure when they came to the U.S., but my grandmother's maiden name is Halley. They came from Scotland, where they were cousins of the MacDougall Clan, plus they are cousins of the MacGregor Clan. We're not sure of why they changed their name to Halley. My grandfather's name is Lintz, and he knows that it is one of the rarer spellings of that name. We're not sure exactly where the Lintz name came from(whether it's German or Austrian; I've heard both), although I'm sure that they came from Bavaria originally, and ended up in the Pennsylvania Dutch community. Both the Halleys and Lintz families ended up in western South Dakota, with stops in Tennessee and Missouri. As far as the Larvie name goes, I know that it's "Larabee" in English. When the government told the Indians that they had to take a white man's name, one of the names was Larabee, but when the Indians pronounced it, it came out "Larvie." Also, we had an Irishwoman, Katherine McGrath, married into the Halley family, I believe she's my grandma's grandma. Wade (GRIMES, NORLAND, BROWNLEY) We have records of the Wade (Cobb and Farley) dating back to the 1400's at Cobb's Court U.K. The Norlands were originally Nilsson and had 3 name changes since they came over from Sweden (Nordlund - Nordland -Norland). I don't have much information on the Grimes name, all I realy know is thatit is a welsh name. I am currently researching the Brownley family, My great grandfather Arlo Leon Brownley and where his family originated.
