John Mair from Ellon, Scotland, to the Restigouche, N.B.

Updated August 1, 2001

About Our Family Research

I have information from my Uncle, Hugh Mair, linking us to James Mair, brother of Hugh's g-father, John. Their parents appear to be James Mair and Elizabeth Johnston of Longsides. I have recorded info from the Aberdeen and N.E. Scotland F.H.S., listing births and marriages for persons named 'Mair' in the Ellon, Logie Buchan areas from early 1700's to mid 1850's. John Mair came to Canada in 1823 and later, marrying on Dec. 31, 1829. Problem is that John Mair was christened in 1822, rather peculiar in a family who had members who were elders in the Church of Scotland. Margaret, d/o my g-g John's brother James, visited in 1864, and addressed John's widow as 'Aunt Mary'. I have gotten info from the Ellon Library about the church history. I belong to Aberdeen FHS, and to the Quebec FHS.
