I am looking for my great grandfather, Jefferson Davis Burkett, who was a Cherokee from (we think) Arkansas. He abandoned his first wife and children (included at least two sons), changed his name to Jeff Jones, went to work on constructing the railway in Louisiana. He married Jessie Shipley and had nine children in Louisiana and Houston. In Houston two sons from his first marriage caught up with him and confronted him. His second family was devistated, threw him out, all children changed their names to Burkett, and Jessie divorced him. He re-married in Houston (name of wife unknown) and had twin girls by that wife. To our knowledge, he was never divorced from his first wife, and he lived such a secret life hiding from her and the rest of his family, that we are having a VERY hard time finding out anything at all about his line. Any news about that branch of the family would be most welcome.
