Dorman was an outstanding athlete in basball and football. He played minor league baseball in the "Cotton States League" and was going to the majors with the Detroit Tigers when he brike his ankle thus ending his professional career. He worked for Hines Lumber Company in Oregon and later moved back to Lumberton where he was employed by the United States Postal Service as a city carrier and later a rural mail carrier. He was a deacon in the First Baptist Church of Lumberton and also taught a Men's Bible Class in Sunday School for a number of years.
