About Our Family Research

I have been working on my family tree for years. It all started when my father asked me to try and find his aunts, his father's sisters, who had been left in England. My grandfather came to Canada as a Barnardos boy, leaving living relatives in England in 1889 at the age of ten years. He left two sisters, Alice, and Louise or Louisa. Both sisters resided at the Chelsea Workhouse, Marlesford Lodge and Banstead Schools.

Alice was placed in domestic service with Mr. J. R. McArthur, "Ardgowan", Grange Road, Sutton, Surrey on November 1st, 1890.

Louise, after a period of time at Banstead Schools, went back to the Workhouse and then to Marlesford Lodge. She was boarded out with foster parents in the village of Gestingthorpe, near Halstead, Essex, via the Gestingthorpe Boarding-out Committee on August 5th, 1892. She was transferred from Marlesford Lodge to the Workhouse in preparation for this on August 2nd, 1892.

I am looking for relatives of Alice or Louise, and would be pleased to hear from anyone regarding them.
