Ancestors and descendants of Joseph Henry Bradridge Dawe

Updated January 4, 2003

About Our Family Research

On 16 March 1855, a son was born to Joseph V and Jane Dawe (nee Bradridge) in Plymouth. He was baptised in the Charles Church and named Joseph Henry Bradridge Dawe. One assumes that the names "Henry Bradridge" were those of his uncle (i.e. his mother's brother).

The 1871 British Census reflects Joseph H.B. as a Draper. He obviously stuck to his trade because on his wife's Death Notice in 1917 he is recorded as being an outfitter.

He left Plymouth on 16 January 1880 on board the U.R.M.St. Pretoria belonging to the Union Steamship Company. He was presented with a copy of "Great Lives of Great Men", which still survives. It carries the following inscription "Presented to Mr Dawe on his leaving England by a sincere friend, J. Patey. 16 January 1880".

Joseph died at Machaquane in East Africa on 5 November 1903, aged 48.
