Deckers' of Essex Co. New Jersey

Deckers that date back to Theresa Wilhelm Decker who was born in 1801. She married Nicholas Decker. He had 3 brothers, Peter, Paul and Philip. Nicholas and Theresa had 6 children, Theresa, Apollonia, Katherine, Henry, Carl and Philip. Henry came to the USA in 1866 and married Augusta Miller, (Muller with umlauts). They had 12 children, Susan, Emil, Annie, Elizabeth, Louis, Minnie, Madeline, Henry Jr. and 4 infant deaths. Henry Jr. married Nellie Elizabeth Bedford and had 4 children, Girard, (Jerry), Gladys, Blanche and Alvin Bedford Calvin. Henry Jr.'s brother Emil married Elizabeth Dodds Armstrong and had at least 5 children that this writer knows of. Ralph A., Philip, Dorothy I.,Howard D., and Emil F. Jr. Louis maried Delmasia Segundo and had 3 children, Madeline, Flossie and Louis Jr. Alvin B. C. married Viola Mary Carr and they had 2 children, Alvin Richard and Elizabeth Anne. Alvin R. married Jacqueline Dorothy Osborne. They had 4 children, Richard Alvin (Ricky), Cynthia Marie, Jeffrey Jason and Tiffany Mary. Cynthia had 2 boys, Ryan Christopher and Brett James Dunbar. Jeffrey married Judie Sanders and the marriage had 2 children, Lauren and Michael. Tiffany married Michael Pastore and had 2 children, Hannah Lexus and Kylie McKenna. Alvin R. Decker served aboard the Leyte from early 1955 until early 1959. The Leyte is an Essex class carrier that was commisioned in 1946 and sold for scrap in 1959.

Annie was married to George W. Abbot of Passaic, NJ. According to hand writing on the back of the picture, this was Annie's wedding dress which cost $100, and the hat cose $35.

Minnie's married name was Lehman and lived in Burbank, CA. Picture was taken in 1938.

This is Madeline at Oxnard Pier in California in 1962. Her married name was Starr.
- Louis, brother to Henry Jr. (13 KB)
Born April 28, 1877, died Nov. 20,1946. Louis joined the US Army on 8/15/1900 in the Hospital Corps and served in the Philippines during the Philippine Insurrection. He was married to Delmasia Segundo in June 1902 and had 2 daughters, Madeline and Flossie. A son Louis Jr. or unknown date or mother. He took his discharge on 8/14/1903 in the islands. He was interred at Santo Thomas and Los Banos when the Japanese invaded the islands. He returned to the states in California after the war. He was a sick man when interred and it is a wonder he survived the camps.Madeline married Victor Guittard, Master Electrician at the Cavite Navy Yard. Flossie married William Taylor. Louis is buried at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in California.

Norma Starr was the daughter of Madeline Decker Starr. It is believed that her married name was Birdsall. This picture appears to have been taken at the Spring Lake Hgts. railroad station in NJ. In a 1930 census of her family lived in Livingston,NJ, her name is given as Madeline also.
