Hi there! My name is Dawn Louise Del Guercio, nee Murphy, and I'm working on a Life History Project that will include my heritage and family scrapbooks, my life and family stories, and my genealogy, which I have some information back to 6 generations.
I got involved in Family History in 1997, shortly after my Grandmother Elizabeth Burney - Murphy died. Unfortunately, it's often when we lose someone, and the treasures within that someone, that we realize how much we value and treasure those stories and memories.
Much of my family going back to the early 1900's were situated in and around New York City. My surname list looks like this:
Burney and Cairns came over from Ireland; Nimphius and Lahm appear to be from Prussia and Bavaria, wound up in Fort Lee, NJ, and then married into New Yorkers; and Pfeiffer, Strobel and Yost, who started out in and around Strem, Austria, migrated to the Stockertown PA area, and then to The Bronx, New York City.
It appears that all of these immigrants came over in the late 1800's, early 1900's.
Other lesser known surnames I am researching include Roff/Ruff, Deutsch and Hitzler/Hutzler.
My grandfather Wright was an orphan who might have come from the Kansas or St. Louis areas. His background is my biggest mystery.
