The Delaney Family of Philadelphia

Updated November 27, 2002

About Our Family Research

The James Delaney family apparently arrived in Philadelphia from either the port Of Boston or Philadelphia sometime in the mid to late 1840's. They settled in N. Philadelphia and were members of St. Michael's parish-which at that time was a primarily Irish community. I don't know where James and his family came from - except it was Ireland. James and his children probably worked as livery drivers. A James Delaney (maybe not the immigrant) was married to Elizabeth O'Toole. They had a child named James born in 1868, and a second, Francis Peter, born 1n 1881. Francis P. was my grandfather. Unfortunately, the James' left almost no paper trail and their story is difficult to uncover. If anyone has suggestions, please contact me. Thank you! MFD
