Includes NotesNotes for Byron Emerson Townsend:
An history biographical profile of the Town of Kent, Putnam County, NY. 1976 by Margaret Bratting, Behr, Betty M. Light; and Nancy Sorel.

They were leaders in the military, church, medicine, education, industry and civic and social area of town life. Charles, Samual Uriah and James Townsend were early settlers in Kent and purchased many large tracts of land from the Commissioners of Forfeiture. Some of these were tenant farmers on the paten lands before the Revolution. The most well known being Townsend Ridge. They are connected with every early family in the town of Kent: Ludington, Ferris, Horton, Kent, Light, Cole, Odell, Weeks, Barrett and many others. The house described was built by the City of New York for the caretaker of the Dam of Boyd's Reservoir. This was the family home of Byron and Eleanora (Barrett) Townsend.

He was the caretaker and the father of the former Carmel Postmaster, Thomas E. Townsend, who married Antoinette Dykeman. They had two children - Donald, a postal employee, and Natalie, a physical education teacher at Kent Elementary School.

He was also the father of Ray Townsend who served in World War I in the Army Infantry in Europe, and later became Principal of Ossining High School - one of his students was Peter Falk. In his later years he retired to East Hampton, NY, original family home of his wife Adelia [Adele] Hedges.
