View Tree for Samuel ParsonsSamuel Parsons (d. Bef. 1660)

Samuel Parsons died Bef. 1660400. He married Hannah Hand.

 Includes NotesNotes for Samuel Parsons:
The Parsons family (sometimes spelled Persons in the old records) is said to have originated in Devonshire, England, and Samuel parsons came to East Hampton shortly after the original nine settlers, probably by way of Lynn, Mass. Whether the East Hampton Parsons family did originate in Devonshire or not, the fact remains that in and around Maidstone in Kent at the present day there are many families by that name.

There is some controversy regarding the first of that name in East Hampton, and the first few generations are pretty well mixed up, due to faulty records and to the propensity of the Parsonses for naming their sons Samuel, John and Robert over and over again. Much of the data presented are conflicting.

The late George A. Parsons of Oak Park, IL, formerly of The Springs wrote in 1940 concerning the Parson coat of arms; it bears a motto which roughly translated from the Latin means "Never Give Up."
