 Includes NotesNotes for Jacob Schellinger:
An old account book once owned by Thomas Jefferson Mulford said: "East Hampton, Jan. 17, 1753. At the south side, in coming to the shore in a whaleboat was drowned in the surf, these three men -- Jacob Schellinger, Daniel Baker and Dick (a Negro). The night before Daniel Baker drowned his wife dreamed the tide rose so high that it came up to the house, burst open the door and brought in a coffin. She requested him not to go off whaling that day; she said she was afraid some accident would happen. He replied, he thought he would go that day, but would not go any more."
