 Includes NotesNotes for Philip Leek:
A very comprehensive genealogy of the Leek family (but not including recent years in East Hampton) has been compiled by Herbert F. Seversmith, Ph.D. of Bethesda, Maryland. Mr. Seversmith is President, National Genealogical Society, 1952-3; author of genealogical and biological publications; is a biologist in the National Cancer Institute.

Another descendant of the Leek family of East Hampton who has done considerable research on that line is Leroy William Tilton of Washington, D.C., who was President of the National Genealogical Society, 1944-5.

The first East Hampton Leek of whom we can find reliable record is "Philip Leeke" who, according to Vol. I of the East Hampton Town Records was granted 8 acres of land in the year 1671. Two years later, under date of August 22, 1673, we find that "Isaack Hedges" of East Hampton sold unto Philip Leeke of the same Town six acres of land with a house on it; and on the 27th of the same month Philip Leek conveys 2 acres of this same land unto his brother Ebynezer Leeke of East Hampton. We know these two brothers came from New Haven, Conn. and probably not long before 1671, Philip Leek and others engaged Indians to go whaling for them in two boats offshore here 1678.

Children of Philip Leek and Johanna Unknown are:
  1. +Ebenezer Leek, b. Bef. Sep 12, 1647, New Haven, CT, d. Jul 10, 1726, East Hampton, NY.
