 Includes NotesNotes for John Murdock:
The name Murdock has long since disappeared from East Hampton records as a surname; it reappears now and then as a given name.

The name is Scottish; it has been spelled Murdo, Murdoch, Murdock and in various other ways. The Murdock Genealogy gives a romantic story concerning Robert Bruce and the arms granted to Murdoch in Cumloden. The Murdocks who came to America came from Ayrshire or other counties of southwestern Scotland. Many Scotch Covenanters left for norther Ireland or America in the late 1600's to escape persecution, first by the Church of England and later by the roman Catholics under James II.

John Murdock was a well-to-do wool-comber and Protestant, living with his wife Mary Munson in Limerick, Ireland, at the time before the English revolution of 1699. The city soon afterwards became the headquarters of the adherents of James II, and was twice besieged by the forces of King William of England, first in 1690 and again in 1691, when it was finally captured. John lost all his property during the siege and died soon afterward. John had four children: Peter, Elizabeth, Dorcas and Abigail.

Children of John Murdock and Mary Munson are:
  1. +Peter Murdock, b. May 06, 1679, Limerick, Ireland, d. 1753.
