The King family first settled on the shore front, at Three Mile Harbor and The Springs; one section of the latter village is called "Kingstown", and there is a King's Point at Fire Place and an old well said to be at the site of the first King residence. They have followed the water, both as fishermen off the shore here, and as whale men in deep-sea whaling days.

By the time of the Revolution there were three Kings who signed the Articles of Association in East Hampton. The was on May 5, 1775. There were Richard, John and Daniel.
