The Emma Family of Penna. and New Jersey
Rosario Emma married Vincenza Spinelli on the 28 of June in 1915 at St. Mary"s Church in Norfolk, Va. They both immigrated to the Usa from Italy.
I know that they both died in Phila. Pa, where they lived. Rosario Emma"s father was Michele Emma from Italy and his mother was Fillipa Piccicuto, From Italy, They were married in Italy My grand father Rosario Emma had siblings and I had heard that his parents lived in this country for a short time before returning to their homeland of Italy. I was able to find Michele Emma and Filippa Piccicuto, on the original ship manifest, for the Ship Stampalia. Their date of arrival was October 26, 1912. The manifest listed eight family members, which included my grand father's parents and family members but not my grand father Rosario Emma. I was quite surprised to find that my grandfather had arrived in this country before his parents did. according to the passenger ship manifest,He had a brother in Mass. The ship's manifest stated that a sister was left behind in Pietraperzia, Italy and that her name was Guiseppa. I Knew of one sister named Mary and her husband Sam Guinta. They lived in Philadelphia,Pa. I knew that they had at least one child, a son named Michael and a grandson named Sal. I remembered meeting an uncle John Emma from Fitzsburgh,Mass. He and his wife Mary had at least 18 children. My mother had Guinta cousins. I also discovered that my grandfather was listed on the ship SS Cleveland and his name was misspelled EIMMA instead of Emma, because of how the double m 's were written. This made it difficult to use the computor listing of passengers records because it had misspelled his name. That this was the Rosario Emma of Phila. Via Pietraperzia, Sicily,Italy;is verified through his Naturalization papers, which listed the SS Clevland ship and date of entry, as a match .
Rosario had one son and three daughters. The son Michael Emma lived in New Jersey at the time of his death. He had two Sons. My grandmother Vincenza Spinelli, had at least one brother Benny Spinelli, who lived in Phila.Pa. and a sister Conchetta Spinelli who lived in Calamonachi, Sicily, Italy Her parents Joseph (Guiseppe) and Rose (Castila) died in Pa.
************** The DeRose Family of Pa. and New Jersey
Nicholas De Rose married Bella Mercuri and had at least six sons and two daughters. One son Lawrence DeRose was my father. I was able to locate My Grandfather Nicholas De Rosa in the 1920 Census. His street address was given and since I knew what street he had lived on, I knew that I had the correct De Rose, Except that My grand father used an "a" at the end of De Rose, instead of an "e", like my father and I use. My Uncle John Lived in southern New Jersey and had at least one son. This branch uses the spelling of De Rosa.
I never heard of the names of any aunts, uncles or cousins from both sides of the DeRose family. Right now,I have very little information on this family line.
