About Our Family Research

My maiden name is Hopewell. I was born in Brisbane and have 2 sisters, Rachael Deborah (D.O.B. 13/11/64) and Andrea Michelle (D.O.B. 7/11/72). My father was born in England (Anthony Paul Tom D.O.B. 15/5/44) and my mother was born in Queensland (Katharine Marie Hitzman)D.O.B. 4/2/44).I grew up in Australia and England - my parents and younger sister still live in England. I married Neil Stephen Derbyshire in July 1997 in Cheshire England and now live in Sydney Australia. Neil is English and all his family are from the Warrington area of Cheshire in England. Neil and I had our first child in February 2001 who we named Harrison Thomas Neil. I do not have very much information on my family tree. I believe mum's family came from around the Longreach area in Queensland. Her mother was called Doreen Marie Ellis and her father Charles Terence Hitzman. My mum grew up in Brisbane and her parents divorced in 1949. My mothers maternal grandparents were called Henry and Julia (nee Lennon)Ellis of Longreach, Henry was a hotelier and they had many children. Her paternal grandparents were called Philip Joseph and Hannah (nee Darker) Hitzman, Philip was a courier. My father does not have much information about his family. He had one brother John who died approximately 20 years ago - both his parents are dead (his father when he was a child and his mother in 1978). After the death of his father the family emigrated to Australia with the Red Cross. Before that they lived in London and his father was involved in the margarine industry. His family was originally from Nottingham and we do not know the circumstances that brought my father's father to London and seemingly cut ties with Nottingham. Possibly it was religious as my father was brought up as Church of England, whereas his family were Catholic. I am sure there are still many cousins etc of my father living in the Nottingham area. My husband's side of the family I am yet to look into, although there seems to be quite a history in the Warrington area.
