Some of the ancestral family data came from Great Aunt Lala Lechuga de Sanabria (my paternal great-grandmother's sister) detailing the life of her father Manuel Lechuga y de la Torre from Camaguey, Cuba. Manuel's parents, José Lechuga and Carmen de la Torre were from Castilla La Vieja, Spain (España).
Thanks to a member of the Cuba-L Genealogy listserv, Carlos Hernandez, I have recently acquired the ancestry of Carmen de la Torre. Carmen actually is from Puerto Principe, Cuba and not from Castilla La Vieja as once thought. The new information traces the de la Torre family all the way back to the 1500s.
Hispanic ancestors will have the traditional two last names (when known). The first last name is the father's and the second last name is the mother's maiden name. Ancestors born in the United States will have only the father's last name.
When family members were better known by a nickname, the nickname has quotation marks (" ") around it.
