North and South, Carpenter to Sutton

Updated November 29, 2003

About Our Family Research

My mother's family was primarily from the North. Swiss Germans(Zimmerman/Carpenter) that settled in Pennsylvania and move west through Ohio, Iowa and onto to Nebraska and Kansas. Other lines from New York(Burton) and Vermont(Taylor and Gustin) followed much the same migration routes. Other families are Eley and Hanawalt that also moved from east to west.

My dad's family was primarily from the South. They came from Virgina and the Carolinas through Georgia and on to Mississippi and Louisiana. Some of the names are Sutton, Case, Smith ( 2 lines), Jordan, Chandler, Walker and others.

I also research my "adopted" grandpa's lines. They are from New Hampshire and Maine (Hussey) coming through Indiana and across county to Oregon and California very early. He also has lines from Nova Scotia to California(MacLachlan and McCrae) and lines from French Canada to California (Lanthier).
