Rosane Lee Dietz of the Lee and Merrell Family Tree Lines

Updated March 28, 2002

About Our Family Research

My paternal family lines go through Arthur Edmund Lee great-grandson of John Doyle Lee (ie Mountain Meadows Massacre) line which many believe to have been traced to the Lee's of Virginia.
Making them related to General Robert E. Lee and Richard Lee signer of the Declaration of Independence.
It also goes through the Levi W. Hancock lines which is linked to the same line as John Hancock of the signer of the Declaration of Independence. Levi W. Hancock was married to Clarissa Reed who had parents who were John Reed and Rebecca Bearse (daughter of Josiah Bearse and Freelove Canfield). It is through this line that we have been traced to Chief Massasoit.

My maternal family line goes through Betty Jane Merrell, daughter of Myron LeRoy Merrell and Minnie Bay Ellis. Myron had a short stint as a pitcher for the Pittsburg Pirates. Minnie Bay Ellis was the cousin to reknowned boxer Jack Dempsey. It is through the Myron LeRoy Merrell line that we are believed to be descended from a Cherokee princess and also are related to Queen Victoria. But this has not been traced and is only according to the words of Myron LeRoy Merrell before he died. His mother was Julia Alice White who was the daughter of Julia Alice Elizabeth Shimmel and John G. White. His father was Christopher Columbus Merrell whose father was Samuel Merrell and mother was Hannah C. Taylor.

I am new to genealogy but am interested in tracing my family roots. There has been genealogy done on both sides of my family. I am married to John Martin Dietz and we have eight children.
