The Mohr/DiMatteo Families of California

Updated November 1, 2005

About Our Family Research

My husband and I are retracing the history of his and my side of the family so that our children will know where we came from. We plan on using this information to keep records of our ancestory and travel to all of the places our families grew up. The Mohr side are German and Canadian. My husband's family has history with World War I and Newfoundland. The DiMatteo side are Italian, German, Choctaw Indian and other various European backgrounds. My mother's side of the family is in relation to Luis Wetzel, a great grandfather, who we believe was married to a Choctaw Indian woman (reading, Dark and Bloody River by Alan Eckert). We also have some historical family background in Italy during World War II on my father's side. The search or research is on and I'm excited to see what we come up with!
Here's what we know: I know this is quite a bit of information to read through, but I got information as far back as I can go and any information is helpful. I am Cristina Philomena DiMatteo, now Mohr (married to Terrance Leland Michael Mohr). I was born January 11, 1980 in Anahiem, California to Amato and Carol Ann DiMatteo. Amato was born on March 8, 1949 in Italy to Enrico and Angela DiMatteo. Enrico and Angela had three other children: Anna, Casimiro, and Philomena. My mother, Carol (born June 26, 1949 in Pennsylvania), is the daughter of Raymond and Ruth Baumann. Raymond and Ruth had fourth other children: Francis, Lance, Raymond, and Mary. I believe Raymond's father may have also been a Raymond or possibly Robert. I know my maternal grandfather had a few siblings, one of which I believe is named Robert, who would be the father of my second cousin, Robert Baumann, who is married to Jean. My maternal grandmother, Ruth's maiden name was Wenzenried; daughter of Eugene Wenzenried. Son of a Wenzenried and Romer. She was born November 25, 1924 in Urichville, Ohio. Ruth is an eighth Choctaw Indian, from a grandmother or great grandmother who was possibly married to Lewis (Louis) Wetzel or Zane Gray. I'm not sure if this is on Ruth's Maternal or Paternal side. My husband, Terrance Leland Michael Mohr was born on July 28, 1976. Terrance (who likes to use his middle name Michael), can trace much further back on his side of the family. Holly Mohr married Lizzie Boling, who had Floyd Henry Mohr. Floyd married Maime Stierwalt (her parents were Jim Stierwalt and Mary McCullough)and had Harold Everett Mohr on May 15, 1919. Harold married Theda Hester Vermella Calkins. Theda was born May 1, 1915 or 1919 to Francis Elmer Calkins (son of John Calkins and Nancy Lee)and Ethal Cornelia Ostronder (daughter of Morenus Ostronder and Cornelia Hester Jones). Harold and Theda had Donald Leland Mohr Dec. 30, 1941 in East Los Angeles, California. Donald Leland Mohr married Crystal (Cristie) Hope Baldwin on October 26, 1962. Crystal was born Sept. 9, 1942 to Ervin Russell Baldwin (born Feb. 11, 1917 in North Dakota Territory, died Nov. 10, 1999) and Eva Tizzard-Baldwin (born Nov. 5, 1916 in St. John's Newfoundland, Canada, died Oct. 13, 2003 in San Bernardino, California) who married each other the day Pearl Harbor was struck Dec. 7, 1941 in St. John's, Newfoundland. Ervin Russell Baldwin was born to John Russell Baldwin and Mattie Mae (maiden name unknown). Ervin was one of eleven children. Crystal, daughter of Ervin, was born in St. John's Newfoundland. The hospital had misinterpited the name on her birth certificate, which her mother didn't notice at the time, then didn't change. So, on Crystal's birth certificate, it states her name as "Cristie." Donald and Hope adopted three children and then had their "Thank You Baby," my husband, Terrance Leland Michael Mohr.
