Through the research of many family members, we have identified and been able to trace three branches of the SPRIGINGS family all orignating in Hertfordshire, England, dating from the late 1600's - early 1700's. The three branches are identified by the more specific locations within Hertfordshire: St. Albans, Codicote and Walkern.
The St. Albans group we have traced back to the early 1700's. This family were nursery men by trade and by the 1860's owned and operated "The Sprigings Nursery". Several members of this family branch went to Canada (1870-1900) where they were instrumental in the design/landscaping of The Mount Royal Cemetary in Montreal. Several from this family later came to the United States living in Illinois, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.
The Walkern group, also traced back to the early 1700's were mostly bricklayers by trade. Several members of this family traveled to Australia in the mid 1800's.
The Codicote group, also traced back to the early 1700's seemed to have stayed within the boundaries of England.
