Throughout my entire life, I have wanted to know who my grandfather was. I had a name, and nothing more. The more I learned, the more I discovered that he might not even be real. Well, he is real. Well, he was. He passed away three years ago. But I know he was my grandfather, because my fiancee's uncle tracked down his name, and we were put into contact with my grandfather's wife. My father was an illegitimate child, one that my grandfather had with someone other than herself, and she didn't want much to do with any of us, but we wanted to at least know if we were barking up the right tree. She confirmed our story. But she asked not to be contacted again. She is an elderly woman, and I plan to abide by her wishes. My father never met her husband; there's no reason for any of us to bother her again. What I'm looking for is any aunts, uncles, cousins, other grandparents, friends and family alike, that can help me in my quest to know who I am. My grandfather's name was Lois Dopson, of Bonham, Texas. I know that he was in the military, and that he did know of my father. My grandmother, Jeannette Rollins, is responsible for much of the confusion and heartache amongst my family, but she passed away in 1973, before I was even born. I am getting married in December, 2001. I am very uncomfortable getting married and having children, when there are so many questions my children will ask me that I have no answer for. I now understand the pained expression on my father's face every time that I asked. I want to do everything that I can to find out who I'm related to. Another reason is that I have several serious illnesses on my mother's side of the family, such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease, and such things I must be aware of for my own health. Only being able to fill out half of my family history on a medical form is just not acceptable to me anymore. I'm 21-years-old, and I'm very easy to talk to. Any help I can receive would be greatly appreciated.
