About Our Family Research

My curosity for the family name grew shortly after the passing of my father. I wanted to know who and where we came from. I have been trying to find out as much as I can about the name and have found a few interesting points. There are many variations to the name. Darrach which means Black Oak is the most common. The language is Irish Gaelic even though it is still not clear if it came from Irish or Scottish decent. There is also mention of our people as "vikings" and "pirates", hence the pharse "black irish" comes about. The first decendant to arrive on the North American Continent would be Abner Dorough and wife Mary, who was a Dudley before marriage. They arrived from Dublin Ireland. The exact date is unknown, however, Abner was born in 1680 in Dublin, Ireland and passed away sometime in 1720 in James City, Virginia. The bore 10 children.
