Dorf-Shershow Families

Updated June 5, 2008

About Our Family Research

Recorded Dorf family history begins in Rozdol an Ashkenazi shtetl near Mikolajow, Ukraine (now called Mykolajiv) before 1842. Jacob Noach Dorf moved to Vienna, Austria before 1900 where the family grew until World War II. The paternal Y chromosome haplogroup is R1a. The maternal mitochondrial DNA halplogroups are K for both the Stutzer (Vienna) and Zuerndorfer (Rexingen, Germany) lineages.

Joseph (Shereshevsky) Shershow was probably from an area near Warsaw, Poland and his ancestors may have come from Russia. The family immigrated to the Boston area abt. 1900. The origins of the maternal lineages: Hirshfield are Riga, Latvia and Jacobson are probably Odessa, Ukraine.
