Richard Marot Booker and his family came to Shelby County, Kentucky about the year 1796. Court records in Shelby County show that on "August 22nd, 1798 Richard M. Booker of Shelby County Kentucky appoints my brother William M. Booker of Virginia my true and lawful attorney etc." His sons-in-law James Young and John Callaway evidently came to Kentucky at the same time with their families. Court records show that Richard Marot Booker bought land from Andrew Kinkead of Fleming County, Kentucky, 145 acres, being part of a tract of 1,000 acres preempted by Andrew Kinkead in the county of Montgomery. Richard Marot Booker built his home a few rods west from the present Booker homestead. Remains of the foundation of this house are to be seen as surface stones. He is buried in the south east corner of the old family burying grounds at "Willow Brook Farm", Shelby County, Kentucky.

When Richard Marot Booker left Virginia, he sold his home, "Red Hill", to the then retired statesman Patrick Henry who lived out the few remanding years of his life there. The deed is recorded in Charlotte County, Virginia , March 4, 1794. The original Kentucky estate of Richard Marot Booker passed to his son Samuel, from Samuel it passed to William Henry Booker, thence to his heirs. In 1948 it was owned and operated by the daughter of William Henry Booker, Mrs. Julia Booker Clendenin, and her daughter, Clara Clendenin Davis.
