Whatís this all about?
This collection of name, dates, locations and memories is for the children of William (Bill) Granville Dourte, III and Deborah Fields Dourte.
Bill served in the USAF from 1979 until 1999, which took our family from Texas to California to Germany to Belgium to Florida and finally, to Alaska. We have moved far, far away from our roots, but still want to learn about and connect with the history and lives of our extended family.
This is an attempt to find out more about our family's history and origins. We are especially grateful for the research others have done, which made it easy for us to connect with many of our ancestors. In particular, I thank Menota Fields Edwards for inspiring me to start looking for family connections, Tracy Edwards Thompson for doing so much background sleuthing and Noveda A. Metzger, whose research covered most of my side of the family.
Basically it's family history, and that is what life is about -- the history made, and the history we make. Don't ask me why I never had a need to express it before, even though I was aware of it and respected it. Now I want it all laid out so I can enjoy the treasure, and I want to share it with all our family near and far. I will be sensitive that maybe some folks don't want their information posted, but no one has said anything about it yet. (e-Mail if you donít wish to participate. For some reason I am enjoying the simple fact that these were real people, not characters in some novel or another, or even in a history book. Just plain folks like we are, in their own time and place.
This is not necessarily entirely accurate. Much of it was handed down in the oral tradition, and goodness knows, I can't remember my children's names half the time, much less great-great-great-great grandparents.
Please be patient, and if you belong somewhere in this family tree please contact me via e-mail and let me know where and through whom.
