The Wayne Drake Family of Terre Haute, IN Updated August 21, 2001
About Our Family Research
My family has lived in Terre Haute, IN or Terre Haute area for close to the past 100 years. My grandfather was named Wayne Drake and was an only child. My father's name is Donald Wayne and he is still living in Terre Haute. HE has one sister, Shirley, also living in Terre Haute.
My grandfarther Wayne was an only child, and his father was an only child. Elmer Drake was my great grandfather, his wife was named Daisy. They also lived in Terre Haute, IN. Elmer Drake was killed while working at the Western Tar plant in Terre Haute, a company that makes rail road ties.
Wayne Drake married Francis Rippy. Francis had several brothers and sisters, I think 8 or nine kids altogether. Francis was from West Terre Haute, IN. Wayne was a coal miner and died from black lung. He worked at Snow Hill Mine, Green Valley Mine and others mines in the area.
My father served in the Marines in Korea and worked 16 years for General Telephone. He then changed careers and drove a semi truck until he retired. My mother's maiden name was Hill.
I have only two cousins and two brothers that are from teh Drake side of the family. One cousin is severly retarded from birth, the other I do not kep in touch with.
Any help is very much appreciated!
