The Duffy's From County Monaghan

Updated December 30, 2000

About Our Family Research

John Duffy (1785-1860) and Ellen Connelly (1784-1868) left County Monaghan, Ireland in the mid 1840's and took their entire family arriving in New York. They left one daughter behind Ann (1819-1860) who married a young Irish farmer by the name of Patrick McMahon.
They took boats from NYC to Albany, then through the Erie Canal to Buffalo and ended up in Detroit, staying at the old Cass Hotel, later known as the Wayne Hotel. They were able to get to Dexter outside of Ann Arbor, Michigan, where they walked 6 miles to their 80 farm, purchased by their eldest son Patrick (1815-1856) in 1842. It was located in Webster Township.
I am trying to do research on this family and would like to contact anyone in Webster Township interested in the early pioneers of that period. If there is any sort of an Historical Group, I sure would like to hook up with them.
