Our Dufrene line begins with Francois Dufrene (II) who was the first to come to Louisiana. He was a native of Montreal, Canada, born 8 Jan 1745. Our Hebert line begins with Jacques Hebert who was born around 1600 at La Haye-DesCartes, Parish of Balense in Touraine, France. (Loire Valley). My research includes information on these families through November, 1990.
Francois Dufrene was the son of Francois Bouain "dit" Dufrene and Marie Marguerite Minguy "dit" LaChaufsee. It is not clear how the name Bouain/Bouin came into our Dufrene line. It was common practice back in those days in Canada for people to use "dit" names or nick names in place of surnames. Ancestor charts trace Francois Bouain, "dit" Dufrene, back prior to 1641.
