I am researching both of my parents family lines. Although as I am working on one certain family I will keep this area updated on my progress. As I move onto a new family line I will include that as well. For a list of all my surnames please click on the link below.
My current family search is focused on my Nilsson-Nelson Family. On May 2, 1874 my great grandfather, Karl Eric Nilsson was born in Sweden. Karl married my great grandmother, Anna Matilda Johanson in Sweden. She was born in Sweden as well. On May 7, 1901 their first son, Karl Hjalmer Nilsson was born. While living in Sweden Karl Eric worked in the mines.
On June 13, 1902 Karl Eric left Gothenburg port in Sweden on the ship "Romeo" for Hull, England. Chicago, Illinois, USA was his destination. On November 21, 1902 Anna, little Karl and her cousin Nina left Gothenburg port on the "Aristo" for Hull, England. Chicago, Illinois was their destination.
Sometime between leaving Sweden and living in the United States their names changed to Charles, Anna and Carl Nelson.
While living in Chicago, Charles worked in a furniture shop. Then they moved to Freeport, Illinois, until Charles decided he wanted to be a Minnesota farmer. Anna didn't want to move but she gave in and they moved to the Iron Range of Minnesota. Once in Minnesota Charles gave up the idea of being a farmer and became a Section Foreman for the DMIR Railroad. While living in Forbes, MN Charles and Anna had three other children:
1. Ralph Eric Nelson b. October 1, 1906 in Forbes, MN. He married Harriet G. Forbes in Iowa in 1944. She died on December 23, 1981 in Duluth, MN. He died April 18, 1984 in Duluth, MN.
2. Anna Viola Nelson b. May 13, 1909 in Forbes, MN. She married Clifford James Guss. She died December 9, 1981 in Duluth, MN. He died August 17, 1989 in Duluth, MN.
3. Esther Evelyn Nelson (my grandmother) Still living (Thank God) I don't know what I would do without her. She married Vern Francis Sanders on August 4, 1935 in Cloquet, MN. They divorced prior to 1944 and she remarried Raymond Edward Wick (Still living).
Anna Matilda Nelson died July 9, 1948 in Eveleth, MN.
Charles Eric Nelson died May 22, 1954 in Duluth, MN.
Carl Hjalmer Nelson married Helen M. Ketola in St. Paul, MN and he died December 17, 1958 in Duluth, MN.
