Arzie Tolbert's life did not begin at age 15. But that is the first listing that I have found of him. In the 1900 Census of Cherokee County, Alabama, Arzie b.May, 1885 and his brother, John b. July, 1882 are living with John and Nancy Key in Cedar Bluff, Alabama. Arzie and John are farm laborers for the Keys. They both were said to have been born in Floyd County, Georgia. Why they are with the Keys..? How are they connected...? And where and who are the parents of Arzie and John...? Good questions... Does someone have the answers? They have eluded me for 7 years of researching!! Arzie married Bertha Abernathy in 1906. She was from Cherokee County, Alabama. In the 1910 Census of Cherokee County, Arzie and Bertha were living in Cedar Bluff, Alabama. At this time they had two children...Ophelia age 2 and Melvin age 10 months. Later (1911) they had another daughter, Irene. Arize died in 1915 and is buried at Union Methodist Cemetery in Cherokee County, Alabama. John married Loula Belle Payne(b.July 29,1855)in August 1903 in Cherokee County, Alabama. They had two children Clifford b.1907 and Eva Mae b. 1910. Arzie is my grandfather. And it seems like I should know more. But He died when my father was 7 years old and they evidently didn't have much if any contact with the Tolbert side of their family. If anyone can help in this research,or know of any areas I can check,PLEASE let me know!
