The dukes side of the family has been a very big task. With my ggrandfather solomon kelly having 25 children, there has been so much information to go through. And yet, there are uncles and cousins that i can't seem to information that they existed at all. i have taken family rumors, and found truth. i also have found mysteries, but no answers. i am enjoying every minute of it.
the smith side, has been harder to trace. seems that everyone has had at least one smith in thier family. but i will prevail. Marshall Booker Smith may only had 12 children, but there are plenty of information out there to keep me busy.
the dukes family includes: kelly, hamburg, lee, radford, and ross (so far). i have found them in choctaw alabama; vimville, ms; gaston, al; yantley, al; raliegh, nc; anson, nc; perry co., al; and preetz, germany. i have many family members living in centralia, il. there have been farmers, miners, rail road workers, a painter, steel workers and politicans. many soldiers from the american revolution and civial wars, to vietnam.
the smith family includes:reynolds, hill, kite, little, draper, willson, hopkins and dill. i have found them in buncombe co., nc; rutherford,tn; murphysboro, il; joplin, mo; dutch mills, ar; shelbyville, il; sugar/cane hill, ar; vinita, ok; cherokee, nc; cumberland va; south carolina and tennessee. there have been farmers, miners, post master, teachers and saw mill workers. also many soldiers from american revolution and civil wars (union side).
i do enjoy finding new cousins. and i hope i can help anyone to find thier branch of our tree. please feel free to contact me if you believe that our roots are the same.
