Need to feel connected:
I am looking for information on the Umstead family line out of Ohio. In the early 1900's Charles Morris Umstead married a Miss Helen Schoonover. My family has NO infomation on her and I would like to find out any information and possibly locate her family. In 1922 my ggrandmother (Helen) passed away leaving two children Naomi b. 1913 and Donald b. 1918. Naomi (my grandmother) was born in Canton, Ohio and Donald was born in Salem, Ohio. After her death contact was apparently severed with their mother's family. I have spoke with family members and no information is available except the following:
1920 above four members of this family listed in Salem, Ohio Cencus.
1921 listed in Salem, Ohio directory
1922 child died at age 1 1/2 years. Name: Harold A. Umstead listed Unstead on death certificate
1923 only husband (Charles) listed in city directory at same residential address.
The last bit of information I have is a mystery in itself my mother has told me Helen had a sister, and I even remember her well. The problem is the only reference I can find to her is as "Aunt Mae". No last name, no children's name and my mother's cousin does not have a clue to who she is and never was told she was anything more than a friend of the families and she thought it was a friend of my father's family. My Aunt Mae was married to a man only refered to as Uncle Robbie (Robert) they lived in Akron, Ohio and the last know date of contact was between 1971 and 1972.
I would appreciate any/all assistance in solving my puzzle.
