I am researching my paternal family in Kingston upon Hull most of whom seem to have remained in a district called Sculcoates. The main family name, brought over by a geat great grandfather from County Mayo in Ireland is GRANNON sometimes spelt Grannan, It appears to be an unusual name so much so that we seem all to be related. My paternal grandmother was a TACEY who appears to have been in Sculcoates for some time; a name Irish in origin which apparently worked its way up through Eastern England from the Fens via Lincolnshire to East Yorkshire. I am still on their trail and am in the process of going back from 1856 there. I also have CASEYS - great great grandmother who also came over from Ireland around 1850s. My maternal line I am tracing in Devon. My mother was Dartmouthian and all of her immediate family came from Dartmouth. However her father was born in Manchester though brought up in Dartmouth try tracing a John Jackson in Lancashire - there were thousands it seems! Haven't even got near a marriage certificate there! My maternal grandmother's family are more accessable. Amy FOSTER ( my grandmother) was born of Ann Elizabeth nee SLEEP(1861) and Albert Foster (1860). Ann Elizabeth was born of Thirza nee CHASE (1832) and George SLEEP (1833 a blacksmith Cornwall not traced further yet)Thirza Agness was born of Amy nee Field (b.1793 Diptford) and Robert Chase b. 1792 Blackawton Devon). Other names FOSTERS of East Stonehouse Plymouth: POLLARD Plymouth:BALL North Bovey/Plymouth: HANSCOME Dartmouth via India and possibly Plymouth. CADES Dartmouth or nearby.
