John W. Turner b. 1803, SC died in Calhoun Co., AL and wife Sara Hanks/Canks? born in SC are the parents of my William T. R. Turner. John and Sarah married May 17, 1817 in South Carolina. Census records indicate that they both were born in SC. Their son William T. had sisters named Matildia(Thrower) and Jaine (Haywood), (Campbell), brothers John F., James "Jim", Andrew Jackson, Littleberry, Newberry, Simon Berry.
We knew he had relatives in AL, because he went back to visit them after moving to MS, Syntha never went back. William T.R. Turner was born (according to grave stone and the Turner Bible that was given to the Oldest daughter Matilda who married John Thrower) July 14, 1825 in SC according to Census (as well as his parents) and died Aug 7, 1879 in Pontotoc Co., MS. Syntha (Lucinda) M. Haigwood/Haywood was born according to her grave stone Aug 1, 1822 in GA and died Aug 28, 1896 in Pontotoc Co., MS.
William T. And Syntha were found in 1850 Benton County AL Census. And in 1860 Found in Calhoun County, AL Census.
The branch broke somewhere from AL to MS in the late 1860's. William T. Turner and wife Syntha (Lucinda) moved to Lafayette Co., MS from AL. We do not know what route of migration they took, whether it led them through Tenn. or not. All of their children, William Thomas b. 1847, George Washington b. 1848, John Lee b. 1850, Sarah b. 1856, Elijah Clay b. 1858, Elisha Thora b. 1863, and Ellen/Ella b. 1867 were born in AL. They all traveled to Lafayette Co., MS according to 1870 Census, and later moved to Pontotoc Co., MS according to 1880 census. both William T. and Syntha died in Pontotoc Co., MS and are buried in the Coats cemetery, located on Topsy Rd. in Randolph, MS. Members of this family migrated on to Lafayette Co. MS, Chickasaw Co., MS and then on to Calhoun Co., MS. Their children's descendants are now scattered all over the United States.
We are still looking for their humble beginnings prior to William and Syntha moving to Miss. We still don't know why William came on to Miss. and the rest of his family stayed in AL. We do know that his mother raised the children alone after the death of John W. Turner. William was only 12 years old when his father died.
Thanks to Turner DNA Project, we are slowly progressiong in this quest of digging up bones, and discovering more about our Turner ancestors.
