Dunfords of Cumberland County, Virginia

About Our Family Research


I am a decendent of Philip Dunford, Born between 1712 and 1720, he died in 1763.
His sons were John Dunford b-1755-59. He had a brother that I cannot find his name, and it appears that both John and the un-named brother died as prisioners aboard a british prison ship during the Revolutionary war.The third son, William Fuqua Dunford born 1760, died 1842 and is buried on the Dunford farm in Cumberland Co. Va.
William Fuqua had two sons, William (billy) Fuqua Dunford, born in 1796,married Ann Barker in 1818, and Philip Tenneson Dunford, b-1794 and died in 1872.Philip was married in 1816 to Ann England.
Willam Billy Fuqua Dunford had two sons, John F. Dunford, b-1820 and was killed at Gettysburg, the other son, (my great grand-father) James Spencer Dunford, born 1831, died 1873 and also was a confederate veteran who married Elizabeth A. Osborne on Dec.12, 1850. She was born in 1833 and died on Aug. 2, 1874.
James Spencers son was Charles Davis Dunford, born Oct. 21, 1858 and died Dec. 7, 1935. He was married to Willie Eugenia Ranson on Mar. 8, 1885. She was born on Aug. 7, 1868 and died on Oct. 1. 1945 and had 10 children.The youngest child and only mail was my father, Carlton Davis Dunford, born May. 29, 1908 and died Aug. 16, 1980. He married my mother Celudie Eleanor Winn on March 31, 1931. She was born on May 21, 1911 and died
Oct.11,2000.
