There are two Morris connections in this family, although there is only a step-connection between them. The widow Mary Morris (nee Peel) married John Carr. Then their son married into another Morris family.
Thomas Morris (Chester UK) married Margaret Almark (Wilmslow UK). They had at least 2 children (in Chester): David 1803, Ann 1805
David Morris moved to Manchester to work in the cotton mills as a spinner. He married Jane Roden at Manchester Cathedral 10 October 1825. Jane's father was Christopher Roden, a whipmaker - probably from Ireland. David and Jane had at least 6 children: Christopher Thomas 1828, Mary Ann 1830, Thomas 1832, David 1835, Edward 1837, William Roden 1841
William Roden Morris worked on the railway. He married Ellen Elizabeth Edwards at Salford Cathedral Lancashire 2 January 1869. They had 5 children: Margaret Ann 1871, Thomas, David, Mark, Christopher
Ellen Elizabeth's parents were Thomas Edwards and Margaret McDermott. Thomas died when she was very young and Margaret took them back to Dublin to stay with relatives; but she was treated like a servant so they returned to Manchester.
William's work took him to Sutton (nr St Helens) Lancashire, where Margaret Ann met and married Joseph Edward Carr, a miner. They had 7 children: Ellen (Nellie) 1896 - married John Cleary, a train driver (4 children) Agnes 1898 - married John Entwistle, a policeman (3 children) Annie 1900 - married Thomas Brodigan Joseph 1903 - married Ellen Molyneaux (6 children) He started what is now a successful pie-making business during the depression to support his family. Mildred 1905 - married John Robert Dunn, a shopkeeper (grandfather from Kilkenny) (4 children) Austin 1907 - a caretaker, married Agnes Fishwick (5 children) Gertrude 1909 - married Joseph Farrell (2 children)
Joseph Edward Carr was involved in the miners' strike of 1910, was imprisoned. On release he was advised to move, so they went to Bolton Lancashire where he worked in the cotton mills.
Joseph Edward Carr's father was John Carr. He was born at Knockbluff Co Galway Ireland, 4th of 6 children, and emigrated to England in 1862. He married his widowed landlady, Mary Morris (nee Peel) some years his senior with 3 children, and they had a further 4 children: Agnes 1868 (died in a fire aged 9) Joseph Edward 1870 Samuel 1873 Mary Ann Two of his brothers were said to have emigrated elsewhere. Any information about Thomas Carr and Michael Carr of Co Galway, emigrated around 1860, would be welcome.
Mary Peel's parents were Edward Peel and Mary Nailor of Upholland Lancashire. Edward moved to Sutton as a miner. Mary Peel first married James Morris, a blacksmith, and had 3 children by this marriage: Elizabeth 1855 Ellen 1856 Thomas 1857 When her husband died, she supported her family by taking in lodgers.
