My brother Paul and I are descendants of Johann and Anna Maria Meier of Rolfzen, Prussia, parents of Christof Duwel, who married Theresia Edeler also of Rolfzen, Prussia, later Germany. My grandfather, Wilhelm, came to the U.S. in 1884. He and his brother Joseph settled in Dedham, Iowa. In 1903 he went to Custer County, IT, later becoming Oklahoma where he received a land grant. He farmed there. In 1904 he returned to Germany where he married Maria Theresa Uhrhahn, who was also from the same area. They had a honeymoon at the World's Fair in St. Louis before going to their home in Custer City.
They had five sons born to them while living there. Gus, Joseph, Anthony, Lawrence and Albert. Anthony died while living there.
In 1917 they moved to Vinita, Ok. where they remained till their deaths. Our father, Gus Duwel, who married Florence Duff also resided in Vinita.
