Family History as we know it. By Roslynn L Guyton (Dykes) It is believed that the family of Sandy Dykes was of African descendant. They were owned by a family by the name of Dykes. Sometime after the slaves were freed. Sandy and Jane Dykes moved from Sumter, Georgia with their daughter Fannie Dykes. Fannie was 3 years old at that time. They settle in Marthasville/Pleasant Hill, Louisiana. Sandy by trade was a labor farmer and Jane worked as a housewife. After leaving Georgia and coming to Louisiana, they had five more children. There names are as followed Golden 1876; Rosetta 1880; London 1884; Osborne 1885; and Vollie Dykes 1905.
We had a Dykes Family 1st Reunion in Shreveport, Louisiana in 2004. This year it will be August 2006 in Houston Texas.
If you have any info or know of any history about the above names. Please contact me. I believe they were on the George W Dykes Plantation Macon, Georgia. Rosalynn will be conducting further research in that state. Interesting Letter from Jasper Dykes on the net.
Thank You Carol Dykes Jones Cjmisc@comcast.net
