Years ago, my mother started to trace her lineage back to Governor Bradford who came to America on the Mayflower. Although she never finished the research, her cousin in Arizona was able to trace her family back and ours as well. All the information my mother gathered was burned up in our barn several years ago, including the book with all this important information. Since I have children, I would like to be able to leave them this information for whatever they might like to do with it.
I have a copy of my Great Grandmother(Mary Jane Fike Hopps')diary regarding her trip to the Gold Rush and her marriage to Josephus Bradford Hopps, son of Martha Bradford and John Hopps. Their pictures hang in our entry hall. Benjamin,the son of Joshua and Hannah Bradford, fifth generation Bradfords, is one
key to our family. According to my Great Grandmother's diary,and other sources, on May 27, 1756, in Meducook, Maine (Friendship, Maine), Joshua and Hannah were both scalped and killed by Indians who had previously been friendly toward them. Benjamin,his brother Joshua, and an older sister were spared. I plan to begin with finding the date of Benjamin's marriage to Martha Studley and the names of their children. I know that he was born on May 28,1753 in Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts. My family is said to be related to Governor Bradford through two different families.
