~ In tracing The Vincent Dziurzynski Family, I immediately found that the name Dziurzynski itself created many obstacles. The foreign names were not easy for the port clerks to decipher because of the language barrier. This is how I began Vincent's search. My 1st encounter with the various spellings of the surname was DZIEROSZYNSKI with his WWI Draft Card dated September 18, 1918 in Fayette County, PA. His address was listed as Jones Street without a house number in Everson, PA, birth date as May 13, 1877 in Poland and the town is not given. As a passenger DZINRYNSKI in 1903, then in his naturalization data of July 3, 1914, then again as passenger DZIURZINSKI arriving in the Port of New York in 1928. And it continues through my research. ~ The 1920 and 1930 Census gives Vincent's immigration as 1901 and 1903. Until recently, I had not been able to trace his early arrivals, expect that of August 24, 1928 in New York. I now have five official sources of his travels to and from Poland 1900, 1901, 1903, 1928 and 1930. There are others but this is a good start. ~ The 1910 Census has 7 persons living at 115 Jones Street in Everson, PA. They are Vincent, his 1st wife Marcella(Mlynek) and five children - Stanley, Josephine, Frank, Matthew and Stefa Dziurzynski. ~ In the 1920 Census 16 persons are living at 311 Jones Street also in Everson. Marcella had passed away May 7, 1918 but 3 more children had been added to their family before her death. They are Albert, Casimier and Annie Dziurzynski. Vincent is now married to his 2nd wife Helen (Rybka) Gosztyla. Helen's 1st husband Joseph Stanislaw Gosztyla, Sr. had passed away on February 28, 1918. Vincent and Helen married later in January 18, 1919 and added one more Dziurzynski child to the family in August of 1919. His first name reads William in the 1920 Census and Boleslaw in the 1930 Census but is the same child. Helen came into this marriage with 5 Gosztyla children of her own, they are Walter, Sofia, Joseph, Valerie and Mary Gosztyla. There are now 8 Dziurzynski children (mother Marcella), 5 Gosztyla children plus 1 more Dziurzynski child (mother Helen) for a total of 14 children in the family. ~ In the 1930 Census there are 7 family members residing at 325 Jones St. They are Vincent, Helen and 5 Children - Casimier and Boleslaw Dziurzynski plus Joseph, Valerie, and Mary Gosztyla. ~ From here (1930) on, I was eager to find out what had happened to the other children. I assumed that Stanley(28) had married Helen (Zajac). Josephine (26) had married Joseph Orish. Frank (24) by now had changed his name to Govinsky and Matthew (22) is now Matthew Mitchell both were on their own. As an aside Matthew legally changed his name to William Mitchell in 1960 in Denver, CO. Zofia is 21, Walter and Stella are both 19 years old. Albert is only 16 yrs old and his surname is now Eckman. Casimier eventually changed his name to Clyde Eckman also. Annie was only 12 years old and living with her brother Stanley. Needless to say that the chldren of Vincent and Marcella did not have an easy life. If nothing else we should appreciate their survival, specially under those circumstances and thank them for their contribution to the rest of us. May they all rest in peace. ~ In 2009, I found out that Vincent's parents were John and Tekla (Dziwrcki) Dziurzynski from Galicia, Austrian Poland. Their names were in both of Vincent's marriage applications and certificates. ~ Vincent was born May 13, 1877, but I don't have his city of birth nor the date and place of his death.~ Marcella died in Everson, PA on May, 1918, and I don't have her date and place of birth. Her tombstone at St. Joseph's RC Cemetery in Everson reads "Pamiegi Marceli Dziurzynskiej, UM 7 Maja 1918" with the inscription of "Prosi O Zorowas Marya". ~ Helen's date of birth is May 27, 1887, she died August 16,1967 in Everson, and is buried at St. Joseph's Cemetery with her
