MATTHEW OLLIFF (1.4.2) is the son of Joseph Olliff and Rebecca (Donaldson) Olliff. Matthew was born on November 18, 1822 in Georgia. On December 7, 1844, Matthew Olliff married Elizabeth Brannen in Bulloch County, Georgia. Elizabeth was born on May 28, 1821 in Georgia and is the daughter of William Brannen and Nancy (Hodges) Brannen. William’s maternal grandfather was Solomon Gross, a leader of the “Regulators” of colonial North Carolina, a member of the North Carolina House of Commons for Montgomery County in 1779 and a member of the Georgia House of Representatives for Screven County in 1797 and 1798. Nancy’s grandfathers, Joshua Hodges and William Fletcher were both Revolutionary War veterans. Matthew and Elizabeth Olliff were the parents of at least six children:

From 1850 to 1860, Matthew and Elizabeth Olliff were living in Bulloch County, Georgia. Elizabeth (Brannen) Olliff died on July 18, 1862. On April 30, 1863, Matthew Olliff married a second time to Annie (Jones) Cowart. Annie was born on October 2, 1842 in Georgia and is the daughter of Thomas Jones and Mary (Lanier) Jones. Annie was previously married to Isiah Cowart who died. Annie’s maternal grandfather, Lewis Lanier, was a cornet (officer in the cavalry) in the Revolutionary War from Duplin County, North Carolina. Matthew and Annie Olliff were the parents of at least six children:

From 1870 to 1880, Matthew and Annie Olliff were living in Bulloch County, Georgia. Matthew Olliff died on April 11, 1890 and was buried in the Bethlehem Church Cemetery. In 1900, Annie (Cowart) Olliff was still living in Bulloch County, Georgia. Annie’s daughter and son-in-law, John and Rebecca Winskie, were living with Annie. Annie (Jones) Olliff died on July 13, 1915. Morgan Olliff never married and died on June 30, 1877. Nathaniel Olliff never married. Nathaniel Olliff died on May 8, 1894 and was buried in the Akins Cemetery in Bulloch County, Georgia.
