I have registered a One Name Study and collating a database for the EDSER surname and its variants which include:- EDSALL: EDSELL:EDSAW: EDSHAW(E):EDSIR(E):EDSOR: EDSAU: EGGER(S): EGGYSHAW(E): EDSAN: EDSAU: EDECZER: EDSHALL: EDSOW: EDSOWIE: EDSAR(S):EDSUR(S):EDSHALL etc. In England the name predominates in the Mole Valley area of Surrey where families have lived from the 15thC at least. Sussex is also an important county from the 16thC-18thC where the name is mainly spelt as EDSALL/EDSELL. Any additions to the database would be welcome.
WEBLEY is another of my registered One Name Studies and variants of this include:- WEOBLEY from the place names Weobley in Herefordshire and Weobley Castle in Glamorganshire. My special interest concerns the Bromsgrove area of Birmingham in the 19thC. There are now bearers of the name in America, South Africa and Australia and any additions to the database would be welcome. The story of Jane Webley nee Danby is well documented and her connection with the Mormon religion.
My third One Name Study concerns the surname DURBRIDGE and its variants:- DERBRIDGE: D(E)(U)rbidge: DORBRIDGE: DOORBRIDGE: DOURBRIDGE: DURBIDG: One famous bearer of the surname was Francis Durbridge the crime writer. The surname occurs in Oxford/Berkshire/Surrey and the West Country in England. There are numerous members in America. Any additions to this database would also be welcome. My great grandfather was a stonemason who made the fountain which used to stand in George Street, Richmond, Surrey and his father before him was also a stonemason in London in the mid 19thC.
