Our family story is my mother's father, Arthur White, was from Opelousas, LA. His father, Martin White, was a farmer and it was told that the Whites came from Baltimore. He was married to Mae Tempy Glaze. Her mother's name was Mariah but called Nini. Her father's name was Ben Glaze and was a Civil War White veteran. Mariah's mother, Rebecca, was from Bayou Chicot. Ben and Mariah Glaze's children included Mae Tempy, Victoria, Robeckia and Johnnie. Martin and Mae Tempy's children were Vernon, Bennie, Willie, Nat, Bertholomew (BL), Arilla, Irene, Octovaia (Nanny T), Eugenia (Nannie Bey), Belsie(Nanny Shine) and Jose (Nannie White). After researching, Martin's father, Henry White born in Virginia (est. 1824) relocated to St. Landry Parish and married a lady by the name of Celeste. Their children include Jane, Gildbert, Peggy, Henry Jr., Lewis, John, Robert, Martha Ann, Luther, Josephine and Ferdinand Wycoff. My grandfather Arthur and great grandfather Martin are buried in Opelousas, LA in Little Zion's Cementary.
My grandfather, Arthur, was married to Estella Cahee in Roanoke, Louisiana. Her family was from Freetown, LA (Mt. Olive Baptist Church). Her father was Turner Cahee (born in Mississippi) and her mother was Augustine Baptist. Turner and Augustine's children were Matilda (Aunt Me-Me), Malinda (Ta-Tee), Elizabeth (Granny), Lola, Abe, Charles (Baby Boy), Washington and Harry. Augustine's father was Harry Baptiste and was from Africa according to the Census and was a farmer in Iberia Parish. Turner's parents were Sam Cahee and Suzzanne Livington. His brothers and sisters were Sam Jr., Abe, Barry and June Cahee. My grandmother, Estella, is buried in Jennings, LA.
Every 4th of July, we celebrate our family heritage in Welsh, Louisiana.
