The Butlers and O'Connors of Ireland Updated July 24, 2001
About Our Family Research
Great-grandfather CHARLES BARTHOLOMEW BUTLER married MARY ANN O'CONNOR and left Ireland for England some time in the 1800s. They had 22 children, 17 of whom survived infancy. My grandfather (same name as his father) was born on 16th July 1880, (there was an elder brother BARTHOLOMEW CHARLES and a younger brother FREDERICK) married MARY ANN TUFF and had 3 sons, CHARLES, FREDERICK and PERCY O'CONNOR BUTLER (my father) born 18/07/1918 - died 15th July 1975. The family were Catholics and my grandfather was 'disinherited' for marrying a non-Catholic, hence no details of siblings other than the 2 mentioned (who visited the couple in secret). After arriving in England the family lived in Peckham. Once married my grandparents owned a shop in Upstreet, Kent before moving to Chatham, Kent, where my grandfather worked at Chatham Dockyard before his death around 1947.
